September Vestry Update

By Katie Ahearn, Senior Warden

The September 2019 Vestry meeting opened with a review of the Vestry Job Description and Covenant. Minutes of last month's meeting were then approved.

Dave Garlow, Junior Warden, gave us a detailed update on the building renovations (see related post). We all thanked him profusely for the herculean job he has performed during the construction, while at the same working a full-time job.

Kwame Ofori-Asante, Treasurer, presented the Treasurer’s Report. As often happens in summer, some pledge payments lapse and, as of August 31st, we were approximately $10,000 behind in pledge payments. However, there is an expectation that people will catch up with their pledges in the fall as they return from summer travels. Additionally, we have $10,000 in pre-paid pledges. Kwame also reported that we have been receiving pledges and donations for the Capital Campaign. (See related post.)

Abbe Moore, Assistant Treasurer, stated that she and Jim Vath would co-chair the Stewardship Committee this year. She also spoke about our need to make all aware that there are two very distinct campaigns. the Capital Campaign and the Stewardship Campaign, and that they are very different. (See Fr. Rob's related post "Jesus and Money.")

In the Children’s Ministry Report, Sheila Callaghan stated that five families (totaling eight children) have enrolled in Sunday School and that she expects at least five more families to enroll. The same four teachers will be teaching, and a high school student will cover childcare. She hopes that the children will join the church service when possible.

The vestry meeting closed with prayer.
