Aloha is the Hawaiian word for love, affection, peace, compassion and mercy.
The Bishop of Hawai'i, The Rt. Rev. Robert Fitzpatrick, has written to the Diocese of Hawai'i, asking for prayers for Maui and Hawai'i Island following devastating wild fires earlier in the week. He shared that Holy Innocents parish in Lahaina, Maui appears to have been totally destroyed by fire, along with most of the historic town. Dozens of people have died, and many more displaced.
The work of recovery will be immense, but there are immediate needs to address. For those wanting to help, please read Bishop Fitzpatrick's letter for ways to support the Diocese's work in providing for immediate needs in the wake of these tragic fires.
O God, our refuge and strength,
our help in times of trouble.
Have mercy on the lands damaged by fires.
Have mercy on the lands
where the weather has destroyed livelihoods.
Protect those who evacuate houses,
and strengthen those who rebuild hope
so that entire communities
may face the future without fear.
Amen.
